ABOUT KIKZUKU
Kidzuku LLC was founded by Maurice Garoutte following his retirement from Cernium Corp. in June of 2006. Mr. Garoutte was the founding CTO of Cernium and is responsible for the intellectual property that underlies Cernium's products.
Among his several patents, Mr. Garoutte invented Cernium’s “terrain map” approach to real-time video analysis, a process that mimics human vision, enabling much more efficient computation than previous techniques. In 1996, he developed the ExitSentry® system for wrong-way motion in airport security checkpoints, which became one of the first practical applications of video analytics for physical security. The analytics engine in ExitSentry served as the foundation for Perceptrak®, Cernium’s broad application video analysis and alert management system, which is in use in campuses, commercial establishments, hospitals, universities and critical infrastructure sites throughout North America.
Mr. Garoutte helped establish Cernium following his 27-year tenure at architect-engineering firm Ross & Baruzzini and is known in the security industry for his technical philosophy of integrated systems. He was responsible for the planning and design of some of the nation's largest airport security and communications systems including Sea-Tac, JFK International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.
While Cernium, Corp continues to develop products for the security market based on their existing intellectual property portfolio, Kidzuku LLC will carry on creating new intellectual property in the field of image understanding.
The Terrain Map technology that has enabled Perceptrak can be considered as the foundation of a new field of image understanding. Kidzuku is dedicated to continuing on the path of biologically inspired image understanding where Perceptrak is the first step and the visual processing module of a sentient machine is the destination.
